With a heavy heart and great regret, we must confirm we have had to take the difficult decision not to re-open our restaurant following the latest period of lockdown. It has become impossible for us to continue. We have done our best to support our staff and their livelihoods, but the devastating effect of Covid-19 has brought us to this unfortunate conclusion.
Our accommodation will continue for current bookings until 31 May 2021.
We would like to thank all of our wonderful customers for your support over the last 4 years.
And now for some more positive news:
We're really excited to announce that we have found a new home! From 17th May, Michael, Tom and the rest of the team will be taking up residence at the White Horse & Griffin, 87 Church St, Whitby where we'll continue to deliver the highest standards of cooking, using the very best of local produce, in a relaxed and unfussy style.
About our new home:
The White Horse & Griffin Hotel and Restaurant is one of the most iconic and charismatic properties on the old East side of Whitby. Built in 1681 it was the first Coaching Inn from Whitby to York and London and was also used as a meeting place for explorers Captain James Cook and William Scoresby who hired and fixed their crews from the building.
Since opening in its current guise in 1993, and built around an outstanding restaurant with an enviable reputation for fine cuisine the White Horse & Griffin has developed into a famous success story. From the beautifully restored central entrance porch with its original decorative panels and the exposed Victorian signage through the cobbled alleyway, the Hotel has separate entrances via stone and rail steps and opens up to four floors within which are 10 en-suite double letting bedrooms of definitive period character.
The Bramblewick dates back to the 17th century and enjoys an idyllic setting just a stone's throw from the beach!
From the minute you walk through our door, you will feel at ease and welcome in our elegant and intimate restaurant. With a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, whether a romantic dinner for two, or a laid-back dinner with friends, you can be assured the perfect evening.
Our exciting menu is designed to give you a dining experience to remember. With an emphasis on using only the finest quality ingredients from the best local suppliers, your meal is freshly prepared to order.
We work closely with our suppliers, and are proud to work with, in our opinion, the best local suppliers.
Seasonal vegetables are essential to our menu and Masons of Flowergate, Whitby supply us with truly fresh and seasonal produce.
Beautifully marbled steak, tender lamb rump come from Sykes House Farm. Leading, yet local third generation supplier of quality fresh meat. Full traceability from producer to plate.
The sustainable and seasonal fresh fish and seafood on our menu is sourced from Taylor Seafoods. Established fishmonger business for over 85 years, supporting responsible fishing methods. Fully traceable from vessel to kitchen.
All our tasty dishes are effortlessly matched with house and fine wines from Berkmann Wine Cellars. Family-owned and founded in 1964, they certainly know their stuff!
